What can I say - this album defines the self-involved 80's! I mean, gosh, it launched the greats of the 90's, just ask Eddie Veder or Marilyn Manson, both of whom were caught together in the A/V closet in junior high just a rockin' out to the hard-hitting riffs that accompany the pan-bangin' beats that drive the soulful warbles of the, um.. words. It's WAAAYYYY good!!!

This lp shoulda had 5 top 10 songs....at least....

This lp was part of the soundtrack to my first serious relationship w/ a girl in 1987....this lp has hooks to die for. One amazing song after the next. Incindiary guitar, passionate vocals....nostalgic lyricism....the best tracks for me are 'Somebody Crying', the wistful 'They Never Will Know', and 'A Hundred Dollars'....of course, the idiots at Warner Brothers records didn't promote it and it went straight to the bargain bins....but NOW is the time to get one of the greatest power pop records ever made. Marshall is one of my musical heroes, and this is nearly as good as my other fave of his, 1983's Field Day....get it now, you won't be disappointed.

Quintessential late 80s power pop

A sublime collection of songs by Marshall Crenshaw at his late 80s best. Beautifully-crafted hook-laden guitar-driven power pop with impeccable production by the great Don Dixon of REM fame.

The pop-minded singer/songwriter Marshall Crenshaw built up an impressive body of work over the course of his career, showing a fine craft for everything he approached while stubbornly following his own creative muse to reach that end. To call Crenshaw's career "interesting" would be putting things mildly. He starred in several movies and portrayed John Lennon in the road-show version of Beatlemania. His songs were featured on several film soundtracks and covered by such diverse artists as Robert...
