iTunes Review

Hüsker Dü was both a brutal punk band and a group devoted to pop music and rock history. This EP compiles two key singles in its catalog. The cover of "Eight Miles High" takes the song's gentle psychedelia and throws it into the post-punk meat grinder, achieving a sense of alienation that was being felt among young musicians as true rock 'n' roll was being shuttled off to the underground. The live version of Zen Arcade's "Masochism World" is muddy and violent, a bootleg-quality recording that reflects the era's lo-fi constraints. "Makes No Sense at All" was the single pulled from 1985's Flip Your Wig, while a cover of Sonny Curtis' "Love Is All Around"—the Mary Tyler Moore theme—is a nod to the group's Minneapolis roots and its abilities to rock out a transcendent tune.

Customer Reviews

One of the greatest covers of all time

A great song taken to another level by one of the greatest, underrated bands of all time. If I didn't know any better, I would swear this was written by Mould. It's just that perfect.

Someone else beat me to it. Review #1 said it best, " one of the best cover songs, ever ! "
Finally available on iTunes, a once-rare gem to be enjoyed by all !

Who knew the originals…?

The most punk thing a punk band can do is to record a very un-punk song. And make it awesome. Which Husker Du did.

Hüsker Dü and R.E.M. were the two American post-punk bands of the '80s that changed the direction of rock & roll. R.E.M. became a superstar band; Hüsker Dü never was more than a cult favorite. Nevertheless, their albums between 1981 and 1987 have proven remarkably influential; they provided the sonic blueprint for the roaring punk-pop hybrid that crossed over into the mainstream in the early '90s. Not only did they shape the sound of the music, they shaped the way independent bands made the transition...
