Why is it that a lot of people have no problem going to a scary movie but can't fathom the appeal of listening to creepy soundscapes? Hm, maybe because it might require imagination, or because it invites visions/memories from one's mind that are more disturbing than the typical, mediocre Hollywood "scary" movie? Anyways, I've listened to (and made) musique concrete and the like since the early '80s and I think this CD is exceptional. I usually find this field of music more pleasurable to make than listen to. Many concrete/noise artists find one idea and are content to repeat it for too long (not that I have a short attention span or anything), and you can practically hear them patting themselves on the back because of what odd medium they're using, but THIS compilation keeps me engaged and is very well-produced (great for headphone journeys). A good blend of pre-computer and computer production tools. And way more women I've ever seen represented on a noise comp, and none of them are being cutesy. I'm definitely keeping my eye on these artists/this label. One of my faves is Natasha Barrett's track. Not a single track on the album is longer than the average radio pop tune! Something now tells me that this might be a "fake" collection (something I always wanted to make); the "various artists", I'm thinking, because of the similar squeaky sounds used in so many of the pieces, and the fact that there are no "project names", only people's names, are actually one artist (or group). Either that or many artists were supplied with certain sounds to work with. If this *is* a "fake" compilation, I'm gonna hafta raise my rating to six stars.

Trance and new age is just using electronic instruments to create regular note and rhythm music. This album represents the vanguard of using the medium idiomatically. Let's have more of this, great album, quite a eclectic ollection!

Please do not waste your money on this CD. It makes you feel like you are in a drug-induced haze that can only be shaken by a good dose of Pixie Juice. Instead of downloading something that will send you into a world of awful squeeks and collisions, consider selling your soul to the devil. Or supporting pixyland.org/peterpan. He is a genius who deserves more recognition. CHECK IT OUT. Peace up, A-Town down...
