Editors’ Notes

Though Snoop Dogg may have him beat when it comes to mainstream visibility and licensing opportunities, Daz Dillinger is right there with him in terms of Chronic costars with ridiculously gigantic discographies. As both a solo artist and half of Tha Dogg Pound/DPG (not to mention countless cameos, compilations, and collabo joints), Daz has been absolutely prolific over the last two decades. He drops several projects every year, rarely wavering from his standard M.O. of infinitely funky, Cali-repping gangsta scenarios. Matter of Dayz is his latest edition, a short but solid 10-track effort that features old homies like Kurupt (on the reflective title track and "X'sposed 2 Tha Game"), Goldie Loc ("We Don't Die We Multiply"), and Snoop (the synth and wah-wah jam "In Tha Caddilac"). The lyrics and production are pretty much standard-issue updated G-Funk, but coming from one of the genre's undisputed architects, you'd expect nothing less. Another strong release from a real Westside legend.

Along with Kurupt, Nate Dogg, and Snoop Dogg, Dillinger (at time known as Dat Nigga Daz) was one of the Long Beach, CA, clique that had been introduced to Dr. Dre through Warren G during the preliminary stages of the legendary Chronic album. Though Dillinger played only a minor role in the success of that album, his subsequent contributions to Snoop...
