iTunes Review

Providence, Rhode Island’s Low Anthem record sparse, luminous Americana-tinged music that’s as lonesome in its way as Dolorean, Pale Horse and Rider and many other groups who cherish the sound of simple bands playing direct music. LA’s third album was recorded at a studio in Providence and at a vacant pasta sauce factory in Central Falls, RI, which gives the album a natural reverb and gave the band enough space to stretch out and let their natural chemistry dictate the flow. George Carter’s “Ghost Woman Blues” is a spare opener that allows the music to build to the distorted heights of “Boeing 737” before settling into the haunting harmonies of “Love and Altar” and the soothing, droning harmonium work of “Matter of Time.” “Hey, All You Hippies!” plays like a loose-ended barn jam on traditional country music with all instruments and vocalists on deck. “I’ll Take Out Your Ashes” returns to rustic country, with banjos ticking away like time. The Deluxe Version includes four additional tracks  of solid caliber, and a video for “Ghost Woman Blues.”

Smart Flesh

I'm not going to go into detail because you need to enjoy it for yourself... But The Low Anthem have once again crafted an absolutely beautiful piece of music that will leave everybody more than satisfied. Gorgeous.

The wait is over !

It's still a new listen and I appreciate the beauty and passion they bring to their music, but it's a little slower than OMGCD. I have spent a lot of time on the road rolling to those songs, so I'm a little partial, but these guys are a great group, they work very hard and stay in touch with their fans. I think this one will grow on me (and hopefully you) as well.

at first listen...

i'm a little dissapointed. I'm a huge fan of the anthem, but it sounds a little off. I'll give it a second and third listen and see if I change my mind. hope so.

The Low Anthem's unique brand of Americana makes room for gospel, folk, and blues, a blend that began taking shape in their hometown of Providence, RI. Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky — both students at Brown University, as well as late-night DJs at the school's radio station — formed the Low Anthem in 2006, drawing upon their background as classical composers to help mold the group's eclectic music. Jocie Adams joined one year later, and the group began widening its arsenal of instruments...
