iTunes Review

Soft-spoken, affable, and piercingly intelligent, Los Angeles based underground mainstay Murs has been humbly churning out great music since the late nineties and his output since 2003’s End of the Beginning has been uniformly excellent. Over the course of a host of solo albums and collaborative efforts with the likes of Slug from Atmosphere, The Living Legends, and members of the Def Jux stable, Murs has fashioned a charismatic and compulsively likable persona. His low-key intelligence and self-deprecatory indignation make him a curiously modest figure on a Hip-Hop scene filled with inflated egos and self-made millionaires. His latest release and first major label effort Murs For President finds him further developing this persona over a refreshingly unadorned album that will sound familiar to his long time fans, but that sports just enough gloss to appeal to a wider audience. The album features a handful of big budget guest appearances from the likes of Snoop Dogg and but its strongest moments come on tunes like the piano and sleigh bell laden “Everything,” which finds Murs reflecting on the unexpected path his career has taken and the difficult choices he’s been forced to make along the way.

You know Murs comes with that Dope Lyricism, but Production Lacking

Murs flow and witty rhymes are undeniable, but he shouldve enlisted more of the soul-driven beatsmiths that fueled his underground career and ended up getting him that major label deal at Warner. "Can It Be" and "Everything" are the clear gems on this album, while "Time is Now" and "Me and This Jawn" sound tired and honestly boring. Ok album but definetly expected more from the UG LA rhymer we call Murs. Oh and ITunes homies, you jacked up the release date, it came out today Septemer 30th son.

Hopefully Murs can make a mark in the mainstream

A lot of Murs fans were worried that Murs had "sold out" because he signed w/ Warner. Well don't worry, he didn't. Yet another great album from. The only track that was bad was Lookin Fly. The rest of the album is great. Soo Comfortable grew on me quickly. Not surprising but 9th Wonder produced the 2 best tracks (I'm Innocent & Love & Appreciate 2. The Science was anothe standout. Another top 10 of 2008.

dont worry murs fans

the album is another great one from the most underrated mc, and he rocks/rips the major record label album. He kills it like always...same murs, just different label

Born: March 16, 1978 in Los Angeles, CA

A longtime friend of Definitive Jux leader El-P, rapper Murs first appeared as a solo artist in 2003, after nearly a decade of working with various groups in the underground. Based in Los Angeles, his first single was released in 1993, and came from a self-released album by his first group, 3 Melancholy Gypsies. The track barely made a dent, but it did catch the attention of indie hip-hop fans in the area. Over time, the group members became friends with Mystik Journeymen, who asked 3MG (their shortened...
