Album Review

Duane Allman's greatness was apparent on his recordings with the Allman Brothers, yet there was another side to the superb guitarist. For many years, he was a highly respected session musician, playing on cuts by Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Boz Scaggs, Delaney & Bonnie, and Clarence Carter, among others. By including those session cuts, as well as a sampling of his brief sojourn in Eric Clapton's Derek and the Dominoes and a few rare solo tracks, along with a number of representative Allman Brothers songs, the double-album Anthology winds up drawing a complete portrait of Allman. He may have recorded plenty of other material worth hearing, but this has the bare essentials for an excellent introduction and retrospective.

Please give us everything we want to hear!

Hey iTunes (slap in the face)! It's a double album set much like Anthology II, okay? Duane Allman and friends didn't put those songs on there so they could be left off later! Get with the program! Great classics are dying by the roadside when so many uneducated ears can listen and decide for themselves. So are you fully listening or just partially?

Duane's Session Work-Great Guitar Master at Work

Duane is my favorite guitar player of all time. His session work showed the versitility of his lead and slide virtuosity. If you are new to the ABB then you should can discover the conerstone upon which they were built by listening to Duane's session work. There is so much here it is hard to know where to start, but if you want one tune to jam out on, it is "Loan Me A Dime". Duane's solo is an alltime great. The song fades out as the jam goes on. I have strained my ears to hear the last notes and dream of what came next. Also, this is not a partial album. I sit here with the original Capricorn album and there are 19 songs on it, all represented here. Enjoy one of the greatest guitarists of all time!

RIP-OFF ALERT !!!

DO NOT BUY THIS! It is missing track 8 "Loan Me A Dime", the best track by far!!! Get the original CD or LP, they are even cheaper than this "partial album"!

Biography

Born: November 20, 1946 in Nashville, TN

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s

Duane Allman went from musical unknown to one of rock's most revered guitar virtuosos, only to die a legend, all in about 24 months. He barely had time to establish his legacy, much less his name — two finished studio albums with his band, a live album, and lots of shows with them (some of which, off radio, are starting to surface on bootlegs), and session work in which he played behind other artists, along with songs off of a busted solo album project. The bulk of his reputation and legacy...
