I agree that this young woman has an extraordinary voice and clear tone. Reminds ME more of Renee Fleming than Jessye Norman, who has a heavier, foggier tone (no disrespect intended). But would divakitty and the art world at large allow us to compare a black soprano to another singer who is NOT black? One wonders. How silly this all is. My bet: They'll be asking La Brueggergrosman to play Carmen soon enough, as if only black women can play the role after Leontyne Price's amazing performance half a century ago.

Although it took some time to grow on me, I really like this music. Very modern, contemporary, direct communication. I wonder what it would sound like with a killer jazz big band behind her instead of a symphony orchestra... In any case, it's good new music -- maybe it will grow on me. And maybe the art world will grow up on the racial stuff.

Fantastic! What a voice!!

My roommate raved about this singer, and I now understand why. She is phenomenal! The richness of a mezzo with glorious high notes, and a lovely musicality in her approach to all these songs, with wonderful interpretation. I read somewhere that she is being likened to a young Jessye Norman -- and I can't say I disagree with that assessment!!! Buy this and enjoy!!

wow what a rare sight

Because of this, the BBC Symphony Orchestra has been able to present a large body of new or lesser-known works that might be considered too avant-garde for many of the world's other major orchestras. In addition to its full schedule of broadcast...
