EDITORS’ NOTES

Longtime friends Misty Edwards and David Brymer come together to collaborate on an EP that brims with so much symbiotic chemistry it begs for them to record a full-length album. “Measure of a Man” starts with a beautiful sadness as the two sing in close harmony over an acoustic guitar, sounding like they're sharing one microphone. Edwards takes the lead, singing poetically about how a man can be measured by his capacity to love. In the similarly melancholic “Above the Sun,” Edwards recalls the search for grace through the scars of her youth. It’s quite an intimate ballad, emphasized by a string ensemble’s dramatic accompaniment, recorded with such attention to detail that the friction and textures between bow and string can be heard on close listens. “Lord I Want You” is a piano-based prayer where Brymer takes the lead as ascending notes give the verses a lofty feel, swept upward by layered cellos.

Poignant Love of Jesus

ebullientewe

I agree. Even if the Harlot was priced higher than the other songs I would still buy it individually! But then again, maybe Apple is truthfully suggesting that that one song is worth $7 by itself. LISTEN TO IT! A very moving account of Jesus's intercession for us through the eyes of Mary Magdalene-originally from the IHOP prayer room, and-can you believe it?-spontaneous. Simply beautiful and makes me weep.

Beautifully anointed!

Wow - these songs are beautiful and the lyrics bring a peace to your spirit as you soak. I heard Misty sing "The Harlot" last summer in the prayer room at IHOP-KC and had searched for it everywhere since then. I am so glad it is on this EP!

An EP being sold for the same price as a fill length CD?

Misty Edwards is in a class all by herself when it comes to love songs to Jesus. However, I am a little sad about only having 4 songs on this release. I will wait for the full length CD. 5 stars for everything Misty does. Minus 1 star for limited song selection.

About Misty Edwards

A contemporary christian singer/songwriter and worship leader, Misty Edwards makes heartfelt folk and alternative-rock influenced music. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Edwards was first introduced to music by her mother, who was a music teacher. At age 19, she was hired as an intern at International House of Prayer (IHOP) where she eventually began playing piano and leading worship services. It was also during this time that she began writing and performing her own songs, often drawing upon Bible verses for inspiration. She has released several albums, including 2003's Eternity, 2005's Always on His Mind, 2007's Relentless, 2009's Fling Wide, 2011's Measure of a Man, and 2013's live album Only a Shadow. Edwards remains connected to IHOP and regularly appears at its Onething conferences. ~ Matt Collar
