Editors’ Notes

Russ Taff has sung a little of everything, from Southern gospel to traditional country. But rock ’n’ roll-minded listeners may know him best for this tough-talking, no-frills album, which unites outspokenly Christian lyrics with catchy melodies and big, sing-along choruses. Though the synth-driven production may seem a little dated today, the songs themselves sound as fresh as ever. “Vision” celebrates God’s plan of divine love, “Not Gonna Bow” pledges resolve against idolatry, and the title song champions a hero—or is that a Hero?—not necessarily honored by society.

Great Records are just Great Records

The masses that have heard this record only know that it sounds amazing! But most lay-listeners don't know "why." Can I just say "JACK JOSEPH PUIG?!" JJP is a legend in the Recording Industry, and he was the magic behind the amazingly written and performed songs on this record. EQ Magazine say about him "You want THE ULTIMATE MIX? Something that’s going to make the young boys sob and the girls all weep?" JJP has worked with so many legendary records. He is a Grammy Award-winning music Mixer and Producer a with a long track record of successful productions, beginning with the early 1990s production of Tonic. Following this breakout success, Puig went on to work with Hole, Jellyfish, The Black Crows, John Mayer, Weezer, Fiona Apple, Green Day, The Counting Crows, No Doubt, Klaxons, Panic At The Disco, Stone Temple Pilots, U2, and many others. Puig has shared Grammy Awards with The Goo Goo Dolls, Sheryl Crow, Vanessa Carlton, John Mayer, Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), U2, and No Doubt. In 2006 Jack Joseph Puig became a E.V.P. at Interscope-Geffen-A&M Records. He has signed Klaxons and Charlotte Sometimes. As a A&R man he works with Shirley Manson, Ashlee Simpson, Klaxons, Charlotte Sometimes, The Counting Crows, Snow Patrol, Puddle of Mudd, and The Like. But little does the vast majority of the Music Inustry know that Jack got his start working with an array of Christian artists, such as Russ Taff, in the mid 80s. You mix together the voice of Russ, a group of the best studio musicians from the era, and the magical ears of JJP and here's what you get: MEDALS!

Retro 80

Probably one of the best pop/rock albums from the 80's in CCM. I wore the LP out. All that is left is pops and static now. Speed up to 2006 and the CD sounds much better. Every song on here is awesome! Can't say that for a lot of releases in general, whether its secular or sacred music. Definately a top 10 CCM favorite of all time! The lyrics are deep, insightful, reflecting and right on target when I was a teen back in the day. Oh how the years go by.....

It's So 80s, but I love it.

This was one of the first Christian Rock tapes I bought back in the day. It's full of great songs, great lyrics. LOVE IT!
