One of the most intriguing albums to ever listen to

I stumbled upon this album a few years ago, and it has been one of my favorites ever since. This album is one that is not for those looking for catchy hooks or "radio-friendly" tracks. It is an album that showcases the complexity of Tricky's composing and his ever-changing mood swings that come across. The juxtaposes of ideas that Tricky is infamous for are very obvious on tracks like "Money Greedy", "Talk To Me" and "Carriage For Two". His interpretation of Slick Rick's "The Moment I Feared" is one of the most innovative arrangements of a Hip Hop song ever done. This is also the last Tricky album to feature Martina's sultry vocals that worked so perfectly with Tricky's layered insturmentation. There are moments were the album can drag for those hard to impress but the album overall is very intricate. This album is not as flawless as 'Maxiquaye', but is much more listenable than 'Nearly God' was. After a few thorough listens, this album is one that grows on you. This album reads alot like a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting, difficult for some to comprehend but for those that do, you'll see that Tricky is one of the most talented musicians around.

Tricky was always his own worst enemy when it came to selling his music to the masses. Lots of people just don't "get" his music (apart from "Maxinquaye"), and "AWDF" is typical here. It's stuttering, drunken, violent soul music that is often hard to process. However, give it a few listens and it grows on you. Before you know it, you'll listen to nothing else. So give it a chance--it's worth a listen.

crazy good

This is an album that came out when Tricky was supposed to have been living some of his darkest days and so a lot of the tracks are incredibly moody. But damn it's something that is a must for any tricky fan. Some of his best tracks of all time are on this one. As well as some of his most poigniant.
