Customer Reviews

Looking for a Good Man, Julie?

Wow! She just keeps getting better and better. Men and Mascara is a great album full of cleverly written and beautifully sung country songs. Julie really stands out from the rest of the newest crop of country singers in that her songs have substance. They make you think, laugh, cry, and empathize--sometimes all at the same time. As wonderful as her first album was, and as brilliant as "Break Down Here" was, we are only beginning to see--and hear--just what Julie Roberts is capable of. If she keeps churning out quality music such as is found on Men and Mascara, and no doubt she will, she's bound to have a long-lasting, joy-filled career. And she deserves it. I met her at her show in Renfro Valley, KY last year, and she was very nice and genuine. Her downhome charm is not a show. That's her. Plus, she's the most beautiful thing I've ever laid my eyes on. Beauty, Niceness, Talent--what more could you ask for? The only thing is--it's hard to believe someone as great as Julie has been treated so badly by men, as many of her songs indicate. Who are these jerks who keep breaking her heart? Hey, Julie, looking for a good man? Call me!!!

Amazing follow up

This album is a very good follow-up to her first, which coincidentally is one of the best country albums of the past 5 years. Her voice is true, blue and heartfelt as always. The best song on the album is "Chasing Whiskey" and the ONLY song I don't like is "Girl Next Door"... too teeny-bopper for me... but I guess all her songs can't be about heart-ache and whiskey, because she does have younger fans. Way to go Julie!

Great Sophmore Album!

This is a great album. Julie co-wrote many of the songs, and did a wonderful job. Her cover of Girl Next Door, is definitally worth listening to. Along with Paint & Pillows, Men & Mascara, and First To Never Know.

Julie Roberts got her start at home in Lancaster, SC, singing both country favorites and the blues. She moved to Nashville after a stint at the University of South Carolina, to attend Belmont University and maybe find herself a career as a recording artist. After college Roberts worked in the offices of Mercury Nashville but didn't let on about her aspirations, spending nights singing with local combos and laying down demo tracks. That material made its way to producer Brent Rowan, who in turn brought...
