Celeb solo musicians usually don't mix well but this is a rare case. All three share a musical kinship with each other that is hard to ignore. All three are at the top of their game. 'Heard them play a few years back with a simialr repitore and was floored. Yes, I've heard the whole album but even if you listen to the sound clips you can't help but be impressed. This is both thoughtfull and impassioned playing. Those that disagree are either tone deaf or lack any sort of a soul. -Bz
Great Album Yo-Yo Ma!
Keep them coming Yo-Yo Ma! Its very impressive and nice to listen to.
Wasn't a big fan of the Mendelssohn Piano Trios before I got this album. I gave it a try though since Itzhak Perlman is my favorite violinist and you usually can't go wrong on his performances. I have no regrets. Ax and Ma have previously collaborated before this and Perlman fits right in. The sweet singing of his violin which I have come to love over the many recording of his I have heard/possess really excites and drives you during the faster movements and your soul soars with him during some of the slower movements. My favorite movement is the scherzo though (of the first concerto). Great chemistry that goes between the artists (all of whom are incredible virtuosos in their own right) and no one overpowers the other. If you weren't a fan of Mendelssohn before, you might be after this (as I am now).
