Original, TImeless, and Sadly Overlooked

'Merge' is the kind of album that's a true testament to the craft of songwriting. I found this album back in my early teens (this was released well before 2009... '04 maybe?) and fell in love with it. A decade later, unprovoked on my iPod's shuffle in the car, I am greeted by 'An Ocean Wide' and immediately recall the entire melody, timing, and lyrics of the song. Jamie Myerson is a genius, and it's a shame that this is the last thing that came from him.

Back in middle school I fell in love with Mr. Myerson's music. By chance, I had happened upon some of his music (as he was a local artist from Southern NJ at that point in his career), in particular this album and his self-titled album. 'Merge' is absolutely fantastic, and I've been sad to see that since this release he hasn't continued to pursue his career in music-making. He has an entirely unique voice and sense of lyricism, and combines musical elements and influences ranging from Duncan Sheik to Depeche Mode. I wish there were more music of this quality, and more specifically more music from Jamie Myerson.

Myerson recorded for 4 Hero's Reinforced Records from 1993 to 1995 before signing with an American, Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings, for a Columbia-distributed major-label contract. Growing up...
