Rod Stewart. Merry Christmas Baby

When Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton teamed up for "Baby, It's Cold Outside" years ago, I started to wonder when Rod would do a full-on Christmas Album. Well, here it is and although I had to wait for anything, this one was worth it. Rod's come a long way from the tire-slashing vocals of "Street Fighting Man" and those American Songbook albums certainly helped his delivery on standards. All of the classic Christmas sons are presented here. A very tight, nice, plaintive version of "Have Yourself A Merry LIttle Christmas" kicks off the album. His version of "Winter Wonderland" (teamed up with Michael Buble' who had last year's best selling Christmas LP) is classic perfection. There are some great pairings-"Let It Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" with saxophonist Dave Koz gets it going in the right direction; "Merry Christmas, Baby" with Cee Lo Green and Trombone Shorty is high energy fun and good enough for two albums (Cee Lo Green has the same song on his new Christmas Album..with Rod and Trombone Shorty); Ella Fitzgerald is brought into the mix with Rod and new wave trumpet player Chris Botti with "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve", in another retro classic of digital magic. Mary J. Blige delivers some street cred with "We Three Kings". A nice, unexpected--and totally appropriate--song added to the playlist is the classic "When You Wish Upon A Star", once famous as the theme song for one of Walt Disney's TV shows. At this stage in his very productive career, Rod is consummately professional and very astute when it comes to things like orchestration and song selection. If you're looking for a new, great, Christmas album that covers all the bases and still has the ability to surprise, this should be your first choice.

Merry Christmas, Baby

Excelllent!! Rod Stewart never disappoints; his voice gets better with age. Silent Night is absolutely beautiful.

5 Stars!

Rod comes through again with this awesome Christmas album!

Over the course of his career, Rod Stewart has had it all. He's been lauded as the finest singer of his generation, he's written several songs that turned into modern standards, he sang with the Faces, who rivaled the Rolling Stones in their prime, he had massive commercial success. Stewart also saw his critical respect slip away during the '80s, when he recorded lightweight pop and although he did record some terrible albums — and he would admit that freely — Stewart will always be remembered...
