Album Review

Okay, say Less Than Jake and a non-political Boy Sets Fire had an affair. One bought the other roses and — as one thing often leads to another — they somehow gave birth to a moody, emo offspring. That kid would be the Killing Moon. As awkward as that visual might appear, this release sounds somewhat the same way. A Message Through Your Teeth is the band's first release for Fearless, a little appetizer of an EP before their full-length drops sometime later in the year. They're not really a ska band, even though they boast a somewhat out of place baritone sax and trombone, as their music falls much closer to smooth, angst-filled rock with slight screamo tendencies. The music is competent enough, and singer Ryan Hannan's voice is noticeably strong as he's belting out dark, romantic lyrics. At times, however, it seems like the brass was added just to make the band stand out from its peers, instead of actually adding much to the songs. This dark rock meets ska isn't a completely horrible concept; the Killing Moon just needs to learn how to implement their instruments more cohesively, instead of allowing the brass section to often sound like it's suffocating under the guitars, desperately trying to come up for air. Hopefully this will happen by the time their full-length rolls around.

Buy this amazing album!

A Message Through Your Teeth is a great EP from The Killing Moon. Formerly known as Animal Suit Driveby, this band hailing from Hampden, ME will not disappoint. If you are new to The Killing Moon their sound is intense and their lyrics are even better. They mix into their sound a trombone and saxophone so well the songs wouldn't be what they are without it. If by a mention of a saxophone you think DMB, you couldn't be farther from the truth. Feel free to listen to full length of the tracks at the bands myspace or purevolume sites. If you were an Animal Suit Driveby fan though be forewarned. This is the same exact album as 110 Miles with only a few differences. They have a new band name, the album is titled differently with different artwork, and the order of the tracks is different. If you don't have 110 Miles, you NEED to buy this album.

This band is from Hampden, Maine, and I personally have all these songs from when they were Animal Suit Driveby. Good Alternative Rock, with a little screaming thrown in too. DEFINATELY BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

Look for more good things from TKM. AMAzING ALBUM

Being from Maine, I support these guys endlessly. Great music, great guys, and the music really keeps you wanting to listen to it over and over again. Lead singer has a unique voice and the integration of horns is remarkable. Very good buy!

Years Active: '00s

Hampden, ME's the Killing Moon is a five-piece rock quintet that boasts a dark sound with hints of screamo and brass backdrops played through effect pedals. Initially started as a side project, the young group consists of hometown friends Trevor Geaghan (bass), Ryan Hannan (vocals/guitar), Dan Lafayette (trombone), Chris Michaud (baritone sax/vocals), and Jeremy Yehle (drums). However, as the guys started to draw more people to local shows together than in their separate primary bands, the decision...
