Album Review

Caraluna, the second album from Miami's Bacilos, is almost as refreshing as their excellent debut. Jorge Villamizar contributes dynamic, nuanced vocals, joined by bassist Andre Lopes and drummer Jose Javier Freire on the choruses and often backed by fuller arrangements. The opener, "Mi Primer Millon," ranges from traditional arrangements to extra spicy and back again with the addition of strings and brass, while the other highlight, the title track (certainly no coincidence that it's the second song), is a bright acoustic singalong. The trio also excel when they slow things down; just check out the aching arrangement for the ballad "Odio el Silencio."
