EDITORS’ NOTES

Mi Vida Eres Tú, prodigious balladeer Virlan Garcia's second dazzling album of 2017, features the same intimate trio sound that made Voy Amarte Hoy so instantly seductive. The spotlight once again falls on the banda star's dynamic voice, which charms on his mellow corridos and devastates on his pained románticas. But the stripped-down arrangements also provide a showcase for Garcia's staggering guitar skills, whether he's building tense drama on "Fuego Cruzado" or letting his six strings gently weep on the title track.

About Virlan Garcia

Virlan Garcia is a singer, guitarist, and composer in the Mexican regional genre, specializing in norteño, corridos, and bandas. Garcia comes from Sinaloa and he has written for a number of artists, including Gerardo Ortiz, who chose his "Fuego Cruzado" to open his smash Hoy Más Fuerte album. Garcia's own music follows the sierreño (trio) format. He plays rhythm guitar and is accompanied by Carlos Gomez on 12-string (lead) guitar and Edgar Salazar on tuba. His debut single, "Que Ya Estas Harta," was issued digitally in the spring of 2015 and landed on various regional Mexican song charts. He placed several songs on year-end "best corridos" compilations from a variety of labels. In February of the following year, he independently (and unusually) released two full-length albums, Pobre o Criminal, which included the oft-covered single "Quién Te Entiende," and Yi Cambio Mi Suerte, featuring the popular YouTube video single "Ivan Archivaldo." ~ Thom Jurek
