Album Review

Welcome to the Night Sky, the third studio album from dreamy Canadian indie rock outfit Wintersleep, arrived shortly before the Halifax-based collective received a much-deserved 2008 Juno Award for “Best New Group of the Year.”

Life Changing Stuff

I don't really write a lot of reviews... in fact, I actually wasn't planning on writing one on Welcome to the Night Sky until I heard the last track. The rest of the album is great stuff. Wintersleep is at times like R.E.M., Broken Social Scene, Foo Fighters, and Explosions in the Sky, all rolled into one great Canadian band. As I was saying, I was thoroughly enjoying the first 9 tracks, my favorites being Archaeologists, Weighty Ghost, and Oblivion. And then Miasmal Smoke, the last song came on. This song gives you raw hope. It's literally a life changing song, after listening I felt the need to do something amazing. It's just such an epic song. If you listen through it once, you'll know what I mean. I have infinite respect for these guys for writing a masterpiece such as Miasmal Smoke. If you don't want to buy the whole album(I don't know why you wouldn't), at least get that song. You can take it from me, it's worth your dollar.

Fantastic Album!!!

I got this from a friend a few months ago and it has quickly become one of my favorite albums! There seriously isn't a bad song on here, although my favorites are "Archaeologists", "Weighty Ghost", and "Astronaut"

I love this album. It's a little over a year old now, but it's constantly on repeat on my iPod.

Initially, they were part of the Nova Scotia label and artists' collective Dependent Music, which released their first two albums, 2003's Wintersleep and 2005's untitled full-length, as the band was just getting rolling. The band graduated to the big time -- that is to say the major labels -- in 2006, when Wintersleep signed with Labwork, a subsidiary of EMI Canada. Members Paul Murphy (vocals and guitar), Tim...
