A forgotten classic

If you are a fan of the sixties folk revival and have not heard these guys, you should check out this album, which is a terrific little intimate live performance. Their eponymous first album and second effort, Standing Room Only, are also worth having. Incidentally, front man Gill Robins, heard on this album, is the father of actor/director Tim Robins.

It's easy enough to dismiss the Highwaymen as representatives of a brand of folk music that has gone out of fashion, at least among the media tastemakers. What's more, their late-'50s collegiate origins, as a quintet whose purpose was to foster entertainment more than to raise consciousness, belonged more to the setting of the hootenanny than the anti-war teach-in...
