Best Music I've Heard in a Long Time

Fist off, as Pete Mitchell said it, this truly is a "Thank You to the 80's". Secondly, it's a thank you that is great to hear over and over again. I just recently found this band out (a month ago) and immediately fell in love with their music. Not only is it funny, it has some nicely written songs. I don't know if there is any song on this album that isn't great. Among Zombie Me, Sweep the Leg, and Michael (Jump In), my other favorites include Umbrella and Leaving Lilliput. If you like music at all (or the 80's!), you should check this album out. I only hope that they put a new album out sometime soon!

Musical genius that's fun!!

Picked up this CD after hearing Sweep the Leg and watching the video. Awesome song and awesome video, but this band is more than just a novelty. They have quirky lyrics and a tight funky sound that my whole family loves. Zombie Me, Sweep the Leg, Old Man Walking, and Girl in the Sea are probably my favorites, but all the songs from this album rate at least four stars! Buy It!!

Fresh-sounding, excellent album

This album is an all-around powerhouse (or should I say roundhouse?) from No More Kings. First of all, the collaboration between Pete Mitchell and Neil Robbins is just about as perfect as you can get in my opinion. From what I understand, Pete contributed the lyrics and melodies and Neil helped Pete with the rest of the songwriting and production. Pete's lyrics run the gamut between goofy and halfway-serious (I don't think it's in Pete's DNA to be 100% serious). The melodies are excellent and gel with the lyrics very well. As for Neil's part, the songwriting is stellar. You can tell that Neil and Pete spent a lot of time ensuring that the instruments fit in with everything else that's going on. The production of this album is perfect (if I ever record an album, I know who to call...). Neil's keen sense of production allows for a full-sounding album where the production doesn't overwhelm the songwriting. As you can tell, I'm a huge fan of these guys and I hope to see them live sometime soon. Buy this now!

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

No More Kings is essentially the creation of singer/songwriter Pete Mitchell. A native of Providence, RI, Mitchell moved around a lot as a child thanks to his Air Force father. In middle school he met and became good friends with guitarist Neil Robins, and though they played shows together throughout high school, it wasn't until college that the first incarnation of No More Kings was officially formed. The two added bassist Adam DeGraide to their lineup and played shows all around New England. Eventually,...
