Michael Shrieve

Michael Shrieve is a long way from the glory days of Santana – he was a 19-year-old star with them at Woodstock, and a fixture of the band through its prime years; but, listen up, the man is still a phenomenal drummer, and right now he may be playing better than at any time in decades. And, at late-evening shows at ToST, in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, he has a power-packed band to render a vision that is part-Santana and part a whole lot else: blazing guitarist Danny Godinez, Hammond B3 warrior Joe Doria, John Fricke playing an electrified trumpet, and bass phenom Farko Dosumov, from Uzbekistan, one of the finest musicians on any instrument in the region. (Peter Monaghan, Earshot Jazz) The recording from these shows, “Michael Shrieve’s Spellbinder Live at ToST”, reveals the beauty and power of this band and the effect on the audience members lucky enough to be there. I wish I could have been there! Check this one out!

Fantastic music!

After listening to this CD, it's hard for me to believe that it's live because the sound is so high quality. This is just a taste of what you'd get if you travelled down to Tost on a Monday night. This CD has a laid back, refined and ecclectic feel to it that is suitable for many situations. I listen to when at home, at work, in my car, and while I'm doing my homework and it's never a distraction. Just great company. Once again, Michael shares his amazing talent with us as well as the talent of others who we may not be as familiar with. I only wish there were more songs on the CD. However, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves high-quality music. Additionally, if you're in the Seattle, WA area, stop into to Tost on a Monday night to catch this amazing band. You'll be glad you did for sure!

Glad to have the portable verson!

I'm quite lucky to live only a few minutes from Tost, and have had the good fortune to make it to one of these amazing Monday night shows on several occasions. These experiences have been nothing short of captivating. Shrieve drives the whole thing, but the other guys are some of the best you'll find in the area on their instruments, period. The fact that you can see them any given Monday for a small cover charge at a cozy spot in Fremont is mind-boggling. The bassist, especially in live performances, absolutely blows my mind every time.

If you ever come to Seattle for any reason, make sure your trip includes a Monday night so you can head down to Tost. In the meantime, you'll have to settle for the portable version on your iTunes :)
