iTunes Editors’ Notes

The profound influence that Eric B. & Rakim exerted over the progression of rap music should be measured not by one album but rather by the string of singles they released between 1986 and 1992. While this may have been the golden age of classic hip-hop LPs, Eric B. & Rakim had individual songs that were more impactful than entire albums. The first five tracks on Gold—all released with the span of 18 months—would have been enough to cement the duo’s legacy, but equally essential are the lesser-known masterworks they made at the dawn of the '90s, including “Casualties of War” and “Don’t Sweat the Technique.”

Rakim=Best MC of all time

Eric B. and Rakim are one of if not the best group in the history of rap. Rakim is incredible on the mic, his lyrics are deep, and his delivery is flawless, It's too bad hip hop had to turn into a frenzy of crunk garbage and couldn't have just stayed like this.

The Microphone Scientist

How could there be only 5 reviews on this album? While Jay-Z the greatest recycler of all time gets hits all day. Hahahaha you're wack boooo hahaha some of you really do not know of anything. Having taste truly is a virtue hahaha. Anyways, like Mike Jordan, there is no arguing that Rakim is THE Best "rapper" ever. To quote a line---"Some of my rap patterns, still surrounds Saturn". This proclamation cannot and will not be disputed. Rakim, the Microphone Scientist.

I'll sip this Juice "KNOWLEDGE"

They never had a mainstream hit of their own, but during rap's so-called golden age in the late '80s, Eric B. & Rakim were almost universally recognized as the premier DJ/MC team in all of hip-hop. Not only was their chemistry superb, but individually, each represented the absolute state of the art in their respective skills. Eric B. was a hugely influential DJ and beatmaker whose taste for hard-hitting James Brown samples touched off a stampede through the Godfather of Soul's back catalog that...
