the road less taken...

What a career this guy has had, and hasn't. He's penned some of the greatest songs from the past decades, went to the top of the charts on his own with 'You're Only Lonely', then faded away for 25 years only to return with a refined sound and more classic songs.

This record is one of his best efforts yet. Thanks for taking your own path, Mr. Souther - I'll follow you anywhere. Such a timeless voice and sound.

What a delightful album. JD has influence in many genres of music, but it seems like jazz is where he was meant to be all along. The sound is stellar, the playing is flawless, and the image of sitting in a midnight cafe in Tokyo takes you to another era. In my mind I'm already planning a dinner party where I'll keep this album on repeat all night.

What an amazing night of music! Stellar band and J.D. sounds better than ever. I only hope I get to see this live. A true legend....

Born in Detroit, Souther was raised in Amarillo, Texas, which may help explain his stylistic roots in both country and rock music. He was in a band called John David & the Senders (also known as the Cinders)...
