iTunes Review

Some bands really do ripen nicely with time, and New York’s White Rabbits are a prime example. They’ve always had a certain confidence and coolness, and each release shows a new level of maturity and depth. The sextet features two drummers, two guitarists, and a brilliant balance of piano, synths, and acoustic and electric guitars, making the bed upon which singer Stephen Patterson lays his hugely appealing vocals. The slinky, sneaky electro-groove of the album opener, “Heavy Metal,” segues perfectly into "It’s Not Me,” which has the feel of The Beatles’ Revolver. Next is the grand synth and piano drama of “Hold It to the Fire.” The sleek and sophisticated vibe of “Danny Come Inside” and “Back for More” has a cinematic quality (the Rabbits could perhaps sell shiny black BMWs cruising a cliff-hugging Pacific Coast highway with these tunes). “The Day You Won the War” gives a veiled nod to Prince, with desire-wrapped vocals and whip-cracking rhythms. Anyone willing to trade in obvious hooks for deeper-reaching, multitextured pop with a certain level of braininess will love Milk Famous.

Complete departure

Whoa what happened?!! This is a complete departure from their previous albums. They sound nothing like their other releases. I had to look up on Wikipedia to make sure they hadn't replaced the singer. With each of their releases they were becoming a stronger solid band. And then this happened. I like some of the sounds but its the vocals and gloomy music that bothers me. This album, to me, is their "King of Limbs" album, and I try to pretend that album never happened. If you liked King of Limbs, you'll probably like this album. If you were hoping for the next installment of Percussion Gun or Kid On My Shoulders, it's not here.

Please release a bside or something to restore my faith in you guys!!

Their sound changed a lot from their last album and I love it! Great job

This is the year of the White Rabbits!

What a departure from their previous 2 records. Fun and sexy! It's nice to hear a band grow and stretch themselves sonically. It would have been so easy for them to release "P. Gun 2.0". The looping piano, REVERB & sultry vox on this record are a nice addition to the staple dual drum attack. Milk Famous is on permanant repeat.

Formed: 2004 in Brooklyn, NY

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

At first, it's easy to mistake the White Rabbits for just another set of New York City dance-rock hipsters in the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah tradition, but a second look reveals a quirkier and more rewarding aesthetic. A sextet featuring two drummers and a piano player, the White Rabbits refer to their music as "honky tonk calypso," and their cheerful blend of calypso, reggae and ska rhythms, plus secondhand music hall influences and big pop hooks, strongly recalls vintage Madness circa "Our House"...
