Album Review

The Norsemen are coming, the Norsemen are coming! If you're an admirer of Norwegian extreme metal, this is certainly the case — especially considering the fourth release overall by Vreid, 2009's Milorg. With sights now set on conquering America, the quartet will satisfy the needs of just about any fan of modern-day extreme metal, while managing to avoid being as one-dimensional as most of the other bands in the genre. Despite just about all the tracks including pushed-to-the-max riffing/bashing/screaming, here and there one can detect elements of Sabbath ("Disciplined"), prog metal ("Speak Goddamnit"), and a group that just about every modern-day metal act seems to be referencing — Iron Maiden (the instrumental "Blücher, Pt. 2"). As far as state-of-the-art extreme metal goes, Vreid's Milorg will be pretty tough to beat.

This is one of the best new black metal albums in 3 years. I dont know why I waited so long to get this album. Vreid is not a real popular band, and with sounds like this, I hope they never get that way. We'll keep them just for us true black metal fans. this album is worth buying twice.

You need this!!!!

This album rips. I listened to it a ton of times straight through over and over. it totally captures a the feeling of being in the Nowegian Resistance against Hitler's army. You NEED this trust me.

This is easily the best black metal album in the past 5 years. Absolutly amazing. No compromises. true KVLT

The Norwegian black metal named Vreid ("wrath," in their native tongue) emerged out of the embers of the critically acclaimed Windir, after that group's leader and chief songwriter, Terje "Valfar" Bakken, perished in a snowstorm while hiking across the remote countryside of his native Sogndal. Unwilling to appropriate the Windir name without their fallen comrade (and rightly so), or even continue along that group's folk-inspired black metal trail themselves, its surviving musicians, Sture Dingsøyr...
