iTunes Review

There’s a lot of love to be heard on Casey James’ self-titled debut album—and that goes for more than its lyrics' romantic content. The 2009 American Idol finalist clearly has a passion for guitar-based pop/rock music, in both its rootsier and more contemporary varieties. He brings a sunny sort of enthusiasm to his performances, helped by Chris Lindsey’s well-tailored production and the songwriting contributions of such Nashville hitmakers as Bob DiPiero, Neil Thrasher, and David Lee Murphy. James proves himself an expressive and versatile guitarist, laying down bluesy dobro licks on “Drive” and launching into a Southern rock electric mode for “She’s Money.” As a vocalist, he shines on blue-eyed soul numbers (“Don’t Let’s Call It a Night,” “Love the Way You Miss Me”), as well as upbeat modern country tunes (“The Good Life,” ”Crying on a Suitcase”) and bittersweet Don Henley–style balladry (“Miss Your Fire"). James knows how to write, sing, and play tunes that are accessible to a wide audience. But more than that, he radiates the winning sincerity of a talented newcomer just hitting his stride.

Casey was hot and bluesy on Idol :-P. Who kidnapped my Casey?!?! :( There is ONE song (Drive) that is even close to what I wanted to hear beyond the sample. What a bummer. Soooooooo sick of AI country!!

Awesome Album!

This album is going to be huge for Casey! I'm so glad that the album sounds so much better than the free single. Why is a Country hater commenting? If you don't like Country then go listen to whatever crap you like! As for Casey, he's coming out at the right time with the other artists that found success in 2011-2012. Country rock is here, it's now, and Casey is going to be one of country's newest stars!!

Worth a chance

I really like this guy. I think they gave him a hard time on AI because he is a good looking kid, but the guy's got talent. He sounds good, he plays good, and these are really nice songs that showcase his style. I like the rocking songs a bit more than the ballads, but he sounds great on both. I think he deserves a chance.....and a listen.

Just like a miner who comes straggling out of the hills is a survivor of the Gold Rush, this artist is a survivor of the glitzy late-'70s disco era. James was primarily a songwriter and studio artist, specializing in that decade's phenomenon of musical technology -- the synthesizer -- at which he was one of the smoothest proponents. And for a minute, Casey James was on the charts as a member of the duo Bell & James. This duo, known for disco with a touch of jazz, rang the hit parade chimes with one...
