Album Review

At the turn of the century, Don Felder split from both his longtime wife and from the Eagles, two tumultuous events that took some time to process. First, he wrote a memoir — Heaven and Hell, published in 2008 — then he set about writing and recording his first solo album since 1983's Airborne. Road to Forever, released in the fall of 2012, certainly bears the production hallmarks of its time — it's precise, shining, and clean, lacking the warm analog air of 1983 — but musically Felder pledges allegiance to classic rock, either through propulsive guitar-fueled arena rockers or soft, sweet folk-pop. There may be the occasional good-time anthem — the thudding strut of "Girls in Black" — but Felder also works out the pain of the last few years, giving Road to Forever more than one emotional dimension, something that suits the nicely shaded, craftsman-like pop/rock on this enjoyable, reflective record.

A Really Good Album

Im really enjoying this album. Im a big fan of Don's singing and guitar work and I admittedly didnt know this LP existed until yesterday when I heard about the 2014 tour with Foreigner. Great production, really good songs, some rockers, some ballads and mid-temp rockers - an overall well rounded disk. Hope there is more to come!

A GREAT ALBUM

I WOULDN’T WASTE MY TIME WRITING A REVIEW EXCEPT THIS RECORD IS REALLY GOOD. SOME OF THE SONGS ARE BETTER THAN THOSE WRITTEN BY HENLEY AND FREY. MR. FELDER IS AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME. GREAT PRODUCTION, GREAT VOCALS, GREAT SONGS, AND REALLY GREAT GUITARS.
SINCE I AM A SONGWRITER, I WILL USE THIS CD FOR INSPIRATION…THANK YOU

Unsung Hero...

You can hear where the talent lies. Not taking nothing away from the Eagles but Don and Joe were a guitar hurricane. Don has been underrated and passed by the wayside for years. So glad to see him come back with some really strong songs- You've never been forgotten here my friend.

During the Eagles' most commercially successful period (the late '70s), the press seemed transfixed on Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, rather than the mysterious man in the background, guitarist Don Felder. But in addition to the group's trademark vocal harmonies, it was Felder's guitar harmonies that proved to be an important ingredient to the Eagles' sound (not to mention composing all of the music to one of rock's all-time greatest tracks, "Hotel California," including...
