100 Songs, 10 Hours 12 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Unlike most classical music surveys, The 100 Most Essential Pieces of Classical Music gets down and dirty with far-reaching works of the genre. This set puts equal emphasis on the gripping, colorful flourishes of modernism and Impressionism (Pärt’s “Fratres for Strings and Percussion,” Satie’s “Gymnopédie”), the sweeping melodies of Romanticism (Chopin’s “Minute Waltz”), and the disciplined elegance of the Baroque period (The Four Seasons). It also includes such pensive, almost meditative compositions as Debussy’s “Clair de lune”—good for any occasion—and Barber’s Adagio for Strings.

JOHN WILLIAMS CLARINET CONCERTO

Great value for many fine performances and several complete 15 min + works. This has a lot of music for the buck.

VERY Worth It...

AT Cheerio

A lot of music for the money with several pieces I recognized, but most welcome were the ones I didn't know right off. I now have many new favorites, composers and performers both.

Really, the best twelve bucks I ever spent and a def must for any music library -- even if you aren't sure you like classical... because you WILL find something to like in this set. I'm finding I quite enjoy having one of these pieces pop up in DJ, even if it is a bit odd to have one of these surrounded by Avril Lavigne, Jimmy Buffet or even the oddest mix recently -- my old New Order CD! ;-)
