Nelson sold millions at the height of pop-metal's reign, then disappeared for five years before returning in 1995 with Because They Can. As those were Matthew and Gunnar Nelson's only albums for Geffen, they're the only things featured on this, Nelson's installment in the long-running 20th Century Masters retrospective series. The hit singles "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" and "After the Rain" have held up well, and "Only Time Will Tell" is a nice slice of synthesizer and guitar-driven, Bryan Adams-style power balladry. (Though billed as "Tracy's Song/Only Time Will Tell" on the original After the Rain LP, this is the same version.) After the spangles and harmonized guitar solos of stuff like "Fill You Up," the light and poppy "(You Got Me) All Shook Up" is quite a departure. The Rembrandts-ish track begins the second, Because They Can half of 20th Century Masters, which includes five cuts from the album. "Cross My Broken Heart" is equally gentle soft rock, but "Won't Walk Away" does try to recapture the rousing exuberance of Nelson's first album. This isn't a proper Nelson greatest-hits collection, as it only summarizes their first two albums. But fans or nostalgia enthusiasts might get a kick out of it.
i saw the nelson brothers live on my cruise and they seemed like really cool guys. (i was in the front row, so i think i would know) anyways, they did a bunch of their dads old songs and they did a different more updated version of (Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection. It was really cool. They were selling CDs after but i didn't see them. I think they might have been their newer updated songs, and i know they said during their performance that there were songs of their dad's, Ricky Nelson, that were on the album too, but they were singing them or something. I don't know about anybody else but i think iTunes should put the CD on here. that would be cool. anyways, i HIGHLY recommend to buy some of their songs and if they're coming by you soon in concert, go, because their show was ALOT of fun, and i'm a teenager, so that's a lot for me to say!
Forget your prejudices..... buy this CD!
Forget any Nelson or 80's prejudices you might have...this is a GREAT CD...for pop rock this is great....for any type of rock it's great...listen to the samples and decide for yourself..
may not be metal, but i love it
for a non- metal group i love Nelson's music. they have the kind of music you listen to when you just need a confidence boost or when you want to be in a happy mood
