The Truth Of Things...

When The Jeff Beck Group released their debut album in the summer of 1968, little did anyone know then the importance of this absolutely amazing album. The Jeff Beck Group provided inspiration for Jimmy Page and his band-to-come, Led-Zeppelin and Page even had Zep cover You Shook Me. However, there is no way that anyone can overlook the accomplishments that were made on Truth.

Featuring a stunning band which included Ron Wood {Rolling Stones/Faces} on bass and Rod Stewart on vocals, Truth set the bar for all hard rock bands to come, including the aforementioned Zeppelin. Make no mistake, this is a classic in every sense of the word. From the opening Shapes Of Things, a Yardbirds staple, which never sounded better, to the closing I Ain't Superstitious, Truth is laced with material that is at once haunting and enticing.

Forget the Rod Stewart you know, this is Rod as a bluesman, long before the Do Ya Think I'm Sexy years. His voice sounds weathered and experienced and yet he is all of 23 years old here. His prowess on songs like Ol' Man River, Morning Dew, Shapes Of Thnigs and You Shook Me defy his years and established him as a lead singer of rare quality.

Behind it all is the amazing guitar work of Jeff Beck. From the electric fury of Beck's Bolero to the blues of Ol' Man River, through to the classical-tinged stylings of Greensleeves, Beck proves that he was an absolute phenomenon on the guitar.

This album was released 42 years ago and stands up today as well as it did the day it first came out. That is quite rare in the musical world.

If you love blues-rock, do yourself a favor and get this album. It simply doesn't get any better than Truth.

This is real rock and roll

Beck and Stewart enough said. And no it's not "pop". This is when Stewart could actually sing.

A blue-eyed blues vocal & guitar Masterpiece

Some thing just have to be listened to. Rod Stewart's early accomplishments are simply incredible.

While he was as innovative as Jimmy Page, as tasteful as Eric Clapton, and nearly as visionary as Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck never achieved the same commercial success as any of those contemporaries, primarily because of the haphazard way he approached his career. After Rod Stewart left the Jeff Beck Group in 1971, Beck never worked with a charismatic lead singer who could have helped sell his music to a wide audience. Furthermore, he was simply too idiosyncratic, moving from heavy metal to jazz fusion...
