Slow, Moving, and Introspective
I've been following Ed Shearmur since "Passengers". I find a lot of Thomas Newman nuances in his music. I really like tracks 3, 6, 10, 14, and 15. A couple others are good too but they're so short. I think the only thing that is stopping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that some of the best tracks are so short, and some of the others seem repetitive and a little monotonous. I'm sure it fits the feel of the movie well, but since I haven't seen it yet, I'm listening out of context. Still, Edward Shearmur is one of the newer composers like Nico Muhly, Abel Korzeniowski and Josh Kramer (my new favorite), that I believe have nothing but greatness ahead of them.
Mother and Child Soundtrack
Saw the movie and was drawn back and forth in powerful ways from the characters to the music. Compositions are a bit dark, distant and tender-- matching the film's relationships really well. Only hold back here is wanting a bit more intensity at times. Great instrumentation, especially use of strings and woodwinds. Great listening not easy listening.
5 Stars all the way!
This is an utterly fantastic score. I love the mixture of electronic elements, guitar and traditional orchestration. The tone of this one is quite melancholic, with yearningly beautiful oboes popping in and out. I recommend a full download.
