A Fun, Unique Listen!

These fine old boys been playing for about a decade now, and they are most well known for perpetuating the theme song for the neurotic show "12 OZ Mouse" which is a crying shame. Nine Pound Hammer truly have a unique sound that could perhaps be described as what The Misfits might sound like if they hung out in the deep south for a lifetime or three and ditched Danzig for Scott Luallen, whose truck stop voice wouldn't sound too out of place in a country band, which might explain the whimsical genre's name, 'cow punk'. Over all this makes for quite a unique album and a fun listen. The only problem was I, like many, learned of them from 12 OZ Mouse's Theme song, which lent it's sound more to Motorhead, so upon first listen I was surprised to hear a sound leaning towards punk. Upon second listen, I found it was a match made in heaven. So, if you are looking for the heavier sound displayed in the 12 Oz Mouse theme, I'd suggest Motorhead . If you are a fan of old shaggy punk with a Texas twag, this is your album

The Mighty 9Lb Redux

This is some sweet, sweet Nine Pound masterfully done again. If you know it, you'll love it. If you don't know it, you should. 'Cause you'll like it. And then you'll love it. It's true. Some people just get it. If you don't? Sell the trailer. Dump the burgoo, Ale-8, 'god's own sacred w33d' and just leave.

Known for their raucous, over-the-top fusion of punk rock, hard rock, country music, and hillbilly iconography, Nine Pound Hammer were one of the formative bands on the "cowpunk" scene that paved the way for alt-country in the late '80s and early '90s. The Nine Pound Hammer story began in early 1986, when a handful of friends in Owensboro, Kentucky put together a cover band called the Yuppie Mop Dogs. Featuring Scott Luallen on vocals, Blaine Cartwright on guitar, Brian Payne (aka Forrest Payne)...
