Album Review

This is the essential Dave Frishberg CD. Comprised of all ten selections originally issued as an Omnisound LP (The Dave Frishberg Songbook, Vol. 1) and seven of the ten songs from Vol. 2, the release features the composer/lyricist singing and playing piano on many of his best-known originals. Highlights include "I'm Hip," "Van Lingle Mungo," "Slappin' the Cakes on Me," "Z's," "Sweet Kentucky Ham," "My Attorney Bernie," "Blizzard of Lies," and "You Are There." Frishberg is one of the top lyricists of the past quarter century, and this release has plenty of convincing evidence. A gem.
