New Emma Bunton material...who knew?

I've literally only listened to about 5 seconds of the first track, and I was immediately transported back to how much I loved her album "Free Me." I've never considered her to be vocally outstanding, and yet...I was immediately transformed by just a few bars of her voice combined with her retro-influenced style. As I'm writing this, I just paid attention to the title of the album: "My Happy Place." She took me there in mere seconds. For that reason alone, I will buy this album. But I'm also trusting in something she's hinted at with those first few seconds: consistency.

Good to see you back, Baby!

'My Happy Place' marks the first full studio LP from Emma Bunton since back in 2006. That's quite a long time away from the industry in anybody's eyes. So, it was a breath of fresh air to hear Emma's voice once again in the 2010's. She does pretty good justice to the covers, and the two new original album songs 'Baby Please Don't Stop' and 'Too Many Teardrops' are superbly produced and well sung. Having guest stars like Robbie Williams, Will Young, Josh Kumra and her partner, Jade Jones, has benefitted Emma and their vocals blend nicely together with hers to create a pleasant, easy-listening experience. Part James Bond, part sugary pop and part soul, this album deserves it's props. Good to see you back again, Emma. Hopefully this time, we won't have to wait 13 years for the next album.
