Editors’ Notes

Part of the GBE (Glory Boyz Entertainment) crew—best known for its work with Chicago's drama-prone Chief Keef—Fredo Santana is relatively new to the game and something of a work in progress. Lyrically, he's no threat to Rakim or Big Pun, preferring a more straightforward, repetitive rap style, especially on the Three 6 Mafia-esque opener "Smokin Dope," the self-explanatory "Wild N*ggas," and the down-for-the-homies anthem "My Squad." At its best, the production is an intoxicating mix of minor-key spookiness, familiar-yet-unpredictable 808-heavy beats, and simultaneously off-kilter and weirdly catchy synth blasts, though at other times it aims squarely for modern radio-friendly monotony (the Auto-Tune–assisted "Glory Sh*t"). Violence, respect, and trap skills figure prominently on most every track, while Fredo also gives shine to fellow Glory Boyz King L, Gino Marley, Frenchie, Lil Reese, Lil Herb, Lil Durk, and Lil Bibby. Chief Keef himself is featured on "My Lil N*ggaz."
