Nice Band

I saw them open for Third Eye Blind, that was a great concert.

Love this band, but...

I remember coming across their demos and EPs several years ago and fell in love with their very, emotionally vulnerable sound. Somehow, this full-length album lost the magic in some of the tracks that I really connected with, like Worth Enemy and Ladder. Both songs suffer from an imbalance between his painfully raw vocals and the instrumentation, causing them to, somehow, sound ordinary. I guess in theory, switching to acoustic guitar in the song Ladder was supposed to make it feel more stripped and sentimental, but it's just cheesy in my opinion. If you can find the original recordings, they are so much better.
However, there are a few new tracks I enjoy that resemble the Upwelling sound I remember: Paris may be the only song on the album that sounds great unplugged, and Who Needs You Now is another great record that reminds me of the songs on their eponymous EP. Perhaps I'm letting nostalgia cloud my judgement.
