20 Songs, 55 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

One of the most storied and legendary record labels in music history, Sun Records has an extensive, star-studded discography, and its studio remains a popular tourist attraction to this day. Founded in Memphis by Sam Phillips back in 1952, Sun started off as an R&B label before expanding into country, rockabilly, and rock 'n' roll. Countless artists recorded for Sun over the years, but the label is best known as an early home of groundbreaking icons like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. This 3 disk collection features 60 tracks broken up into three parts. The first disc features beloved bluesmen like James Cotton and Rufus Thomas. The second highlights early work from The Man in Black and Roy Orbison, while the third set showcases classics from The Killer, including the signature hits "Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On." Elvis is M.I.A. here, but we also get great jams from the likes of Sonny Burgess, Little Junior Parker, The Prisonaires, and many more. It's an outstanding and immensely likeable compilation from one of the most important record labels of all time.
