Delightful!!

Don't miss this recording!! Well curated. Rachael at her best...she clearly loves playing for little Sylvia!

Lovely collection of short Violin lullabies

This CD is a collection of lullabies performed by Rachel Barton Pine (violin) and Matthew Hagle (piano). The disc is lovely from start to finish, but particularly attention grabbing are Frolov’s Concert Fantasio on Gershwin’s Summertime, Manuel de Falla’s Nana (No. 5 from Siete canciones populares espanolas), Faure’s Berceuse (Op. 16), Schubert’s Wiegenlied (D. 498 – this is just *gorgeous*), Durosoir’s Berceuse (No. 4, from Cinq Aquarelles), Mikhail Antsev’s Berceuse (No. 1, from Four Pieces), Victor Beraud’s Petite Reine Berceuse (Lullaby for a Little Queen – this is sooooo sweet!), and William Grant Still’s Mother and Child (No. 2 from Suite for Violin and Piano). The collection closes with Max Reger’s wonderful Wiegenlied (Cradle Song – No.l from Drei Kompositienen, Op. 79d).

Ms. Pine does a marvelous job on the violin, and her performance is warm and refreshing. Matthew Hagle accompanies on piano, and he too has a fine balance with the violin, each combining together to form a delightful whole. This is just fundamentally good music making, and the material is soothing and very special.

While I don’t normally go in for collections, this one is worth acquiring. Highly recommended.

Breathtaking
