This Jazz fusion is a gift to world-weary travelers

It’s steamy and seductive, hypnotic and haunting. Eric Kamen's Native Unit CD is filled with the ultra-lush sounds of Spanish guitar, acoustic piano, bass, drums, bazukis, sitar, strings, tubular bells, and Japanese Koto. Listening to this fused Jazz collection makes me feel less world-weary! It is like a beautiful musical oasis, where I can go and shut the door behind me! Produced as a series of "first takes" it has that raw here-and-now honesty and freshness that is lacking in so much of the current "spin" music... you must hear it! And then you are going to want to own it!

Eric Kamen's music is rather difficult to corner, he produces a very unique sound with a blend of influences...this *is* "fusion music." I was blown away when I first heard it. If you like smoother sounds of jazz á la Earl Klugh then this should right up your alley, if you like jazz fusion you should love this. Kamen produces smooth notes with hints of funk, and at other times sounds as if emanating from an Asian village, one in Latin America or even perhaps somewhere in Africa. Not only is the guitar play exceptional, whoever does the percussion and editing has done a superb job of mastering! Highly recommend, I hope to be able to buy more music from Mr. Kamen for many more years to come!

Just getting warm

I like this album in my opinion the hottest track is Mykonos at Midnight that's what sold me on it. I think it's worth the money, and I would like to hear more from this artist in the future.

The 1971 death of his physicist father sent him into a prolonged tailspin, and after battling drug and alcohol problems throughout his teens, he dropped out of school and took a job pumping gas. Everett's interest in music eventually inspired him to turn to record reviewing, and from there he moved into engineering and production. Settling in California, he adopted the E moniker and began pursuing...
