iTunes Editors’ Notes

America’s most famous bluesman celebrates a milestone – his 80th birthday – with a dozen pals and superstars onboard. The result shows off the varied styles King has touched on over the years – not just horn-fueled uptown blues (“Tired of Your Jive,” with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons trading licks), but dramatic cries of pop-wise anguish (a mournful version of perhaps his most famous number, “The Thrill is Gone,” with Eric Clapton), strolling rock (“Hummingbird,” with John Mayer), and East Coast soul ( “Ain’t Nobody Home” with Daryl Hall). The song list makes for a de facto greatest-hits set, and a worthy salute to a still powerful (and happy: check out his gleeful laugh midway through “Early in the Morning”) musical icon.

A Fulfilling Tribute

The great B.B. King gets together with many other excellent artists for this album. B.B.'s versatility shines through - as all the tunes sound at their natural best with the wide array of collaborators featured here. I highly recommend any tune from this album (the whole album, too!)!

80 and still the voice of the Blues

BB King proves that even at 80, it is soul that makes a great musician. Like a fine scotch, BB improves with age, and has not lost his touch as the best Blues artist of all time. The duos wih such an eclectic group of musicians are somehow wonderfully inspiring. This is one album that any BB King fan should add to their collection. BB King is the original Blues man and he proves himself once again as the true King of the genre. A great concept, a great album and great Blues - doesn't get much better than this!

Universally hailed as the king of the blues, the legendary B.B. King was without a doubt the single most important electric guitarist of the last half of the 20th century. His bent notes and staccato picking style influenced legions of contemporary bluesmen, while his gritty and confident voice — capable of wringing every nuance from any lyric — provided a worthy match for his passionate playing. Between 1951 and 1985, King notched an impressive 74 entries on Billboard's R&B charts,...
