iTunes Review

A Los Angeles group currently comprising longtime underground dwellers Krondon, Phil Da Agony, and Mitchy Slick, Strong Arm Steady have been grinding away for many years now, putting out countless mixtapes while also dealing with various personnel changes (most notably the exit of Xzibit) and record label issues. On Stoney Jackson, they join forces with Stones Throw and resident Beat Konducta Madlib, who produces the album in its entirety. As usual, Madlib's beats are totally on target, overflowing with unpredictable drum change-ups, random vocal clips, and soul-drenched loops galore. Guest appearances come from a wide variety of L.A. wordsmiths, including Talib Kweli, Planet Asia, Roc C, Oh No, Sick Jacken, Evidence, and Roscoe, as well as Guilty Simpson and Phonte. Standouts include "Questions," "Get Started," and "Pressure."

Customer Reviews

Very Solid Album. Best of 2010 so far.

This album is full of soulful, hard hitting production by producer Madlib. Out of 18 tracks, almost every single one of them has at least one feature, which makes this album feel like a Madlib compilation rather than a Strong Arm Steady album. That is my biggest complaint about the album, which consists of NOT ONE bad track. Every song is backed by great production and solid rhymes by SAS and the featured rappers. Standout tracks are: "Best of Times", "Questions", "New Love", "Get Started" and "True Champs". Please support REAL Hip Hop and buy this album.

Siiiiiick

To introduce themselves to the world, the members of Los Angeles-based Strong Arm Steady -- Xzibit, Krondon, Phil the Agony, and Mitchy Slick -- didn't stick to the usual technique of releasing an album. Instead, in 2004 they issued a DVD of clips from performances, recording sessions, and the band hanging out, although thanks to their mixtapes, they were already known in the L.A. area. In 2005 their debut, Arms & Hammers, was set to be released on Xzibit's Columbia imprint, Open Bar, but when that...
