20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Gladys Knight & the Pips gathers a dozen of the group's definitive tracks, including "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "If I Were Your Woman," and "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)." However, the album leaves off almost as many essential tracks as it includes — the omissions of "Midnight Train to Georgia," "I Feel a Song (In My Heart)," and "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" are particularly glaring. Both the Ultimate Collection and, particularly, the Essential Collection feature more of Gladys Knight & the Pips' best material, but The Millennium Collection does provide a decent overview of the group's body of work for the most casual fans.

Most Underrated Talent

Gladys Knight is truly one of the most underrated talents of her generation. Everyone always talks about Tina, Patti and the others, Gladys proves that she can shine generation after generation. Her music stands the test of time and she has always stayed true to her talent. Gladys Knight and The Pips are a must have for any music lovers collecton. I love you Gladys! :)

One of the great soul singers, Gladys Knight was a performer from her childhood years, forming the Pips with her brother Merald and a couple cousins. They made the Top Ten in 1961 with the heavily doo wop-influenced "Every Beat of My Heart," and recorded some fine, nowadays overlooked pop-soul sides for the Fury and Maxx labels in the early and mid-'60s, sometimes under the direction of songwriter Van McCoy.
