Good, classic, chik rock

Well, I have to say I am a fan since high school. Babes started w/ Courtney love and as soon as she left they had some hits, Hmmm. But this cd has that hole sound to it, or hole has the babes sound to it. Anyway. It is a good album. Sweet 69 is the hit off of the cd, and hello is great. I didn't like the remake of We are family; perhaps because I just dont like the original either. Oh well, It is a above avg. album, at least a couple songs I mentioned are Buys. :)

Scary good

For starters it's just raw and psychadelic the way Kat plays and sings and I love how there's a couple of songs where she has her bandmates do some singing. Sweet 69 is the best track it's about a car I think. Hello Memory Ariel 22 and Middleman are good. Drivin' is repetitive but it's got that psychadelic feel. All By Myself is so fun cause it's like Celine Dion on crack and no one loves her! Yes!

Babes In Toyland's most mature album. A totally different sound than what you'd be used to hearing from The Babes, a raw, psychedelic, space feel is the aura the album gives off. To listen to this album in little bits or as a whole, it is pure art in it's form. Being the true artists that they are, the transition from their earlier work was smooth and beautiful. "Nemesisters" is The Babes' most mature album, musically and lyrically, feeling a higher connection to what we are. "Istigkeit" of "Painkillers" was a perfect, teaspoon taste of this album, yet still in it's date in sound. Tracks like "22" prove this, along with "Ariel" and it's beautiful soft, ripe and powerful vocals of Kat and the evident backing vocals of Lori and Maureen, lyrics that reach green and composition of an acid trip. "Nemesisters" is a pure taste of all three and yet, another must-listen, must-have. Opening with "Hello" and ending with a beautiful cover only The Babes can pull off flawlessly, you will feel every vibe but only if you let yourself. No other compares. Big applause!

Formed: 1987 in Minneapolis, MN

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Babes in Toyland is about as harsh as rock music gets -- guitarist Kat Bjelland screams and thrashes her guitar to the gut-pounding, throttling beat of bassist Maureen Herman and drummer Lori Barbero. Over their two albums and two EPs, the all-female trio offer no escape from their strongly female-oriented, but not necessarily feminist, rock. Bjelland formed Babes in Toyland in 1987 in Minneapolis, after playing around San Francisco for several years in various bands that featured, at various times,...
