iTunes Editors’ Notes

Though he never really blew up as a solo artist, there's a good chance you've heard Grap Luva somewhere before. The younger brother of Soul Brother #1 Pete Rock, he was also half of the group INI and has crafted beats for a wide assortment of artists, including J-Live and Method Man. Produced by Kev Brown, Joc Max, and Grap himself (and mastered by the legendary K-Def), this is his first official solo record; it's an 11-track EP that combines new joints and older unreleased gems from his massive crates. Like his brother, he's got an undeniable knack for sublimely catchy, jazz-flavored samples paired with simple but strong drums and low-key, laid-back wordplay. Though it's primarily an instrumental set, some quality rhymes are on display here; most notable are "Work It Out" and "Work Is Never Done" featuring underground veteran Damu the Fudgemunk. The rap-free numbers are all excellent, but "Westside Highway" and the aptly titled "Rocking with Elegance" are especially nice.

B-boy

Beats are crispy. Lyrics are socially concious. A great return to the hip hop game. Especially loves the "grap ludes" before each song u get a verse from his previous work. Real hip hop returns with GRAP LUVA!!

A no brainer. Buy it.

Grap Luva aka The Younger Soul Brother is no new jack to hip hop. Grap's been a part of hip hop's early days thanks to his big bro Pete Rock and cousin Heavy D (RIP). However, being associated to two of Hip Hop's Hall of Famers doesn't make the man. Grap's graced the mic for years most specifically on what I consider to be one the of the most underrated and classic albums of all time with his group INI. And he's also been gracing the SP-1200 with his amazing production skills. Through the years this Money Earnin Mount Vernon native has graced hip hop tracks both in front and behind from Method Man, Kev Brown, Sound Providers, Nextmen, J-Live, Asheru and Blue Black and many more. Finally Grap blesses us with beats and rhymes that any hip hop junkie would be proud to have in their collection. No gamble to be taken on this album for it is hip hop. It flows with the melodic beats that Grap and others like Kev Brown and Joc Max have laced us with. Grap's production skills can place you in a trance with the serious head nodding. My only complaint and it's for selfish reasons, is that I wished it lasted longer! What can you do. It does say EP right? I'm more than happy to recommend this to you, my family your family and any hip hop aficionado. As I write this Make Em Clap plays loudly and it's easy to see where Graps influence lays. I can only hope this is the appetizer onto what I hope will be a full LP. If not I'm still full off what Grap's laced us with. One love.

Grap Luva LOVE YOU!

Why can't we buy more great music like this? Hope to hear more from Grap Luva!!!
