iTunes Review

The U.S. electronic music boom of the late '90s was hitting its commercial peak when BT released his third studio album, and the trance music superstar was feeling his oats. Hip-hop, alt, and acoustic rock all mingle with BT's signature pyrotechnics. Soul Coughing's Mike Doughty lends vocals to the breaks-driven "Never Gonna Come Back Down," and DJ Peanut Butter Wolf adds scratching to the way-laidback hip-hop opus "Love on Haight Street." And for all BT's epic dance cuts, there's a chill jam like "Satellite" to keep the balance.

Customer Reviews

Simply put, every fan of electronic music must own this album.

Personally, I believe that this will always be my favorite album by BT. "Ima" and "ESCM" were decent early works ("Blue Skies" with Tori Amos is a must-have track), and “This Binary Universe” and “These Hopeful Machines” - while much better sounding from a production standpoint - are to me much too long and feature far too many “listen to this cool effect!” moments. The tracks too often come across more as showpieces than musical pieces.

“Movements in Still Life” is, to me, the perfect “mid-catalog” album. Despite being nearly 12 years old, the tracks haven’t dulled with age; they’re just as exciting to listen to now as they were in 2000. The guest vocals are all perfect for their respective tracks, and the old club hits “Godspeed” and “Dreaming” are still a joy to listen to.

If I had one request, it would be for BT to remaster this album to bring the sonic quality up to his current standards. Then - and only then - would I ever consider removing this CD from my collection.

A Mixer of Genres

This album has a lot of genres mixes in to from breatbeat sounds of "Madskillz" and "Never Come Back Down" to trance melodies from "Mercury and Solance" and "Godspeed". If you are a fan of older EDM than get this album it is just wonderful!

It's been awhile...

Loved listening to this way back then. I thank my sister for getting me into this artist. Such an amazing sound!

His concept of epic house inspired by the classical training he received from an early age, Brian Transeau revitalized the British dance community in the mid-'90s and provided a point of entry for later dream house merchants like Robert Miles, Sash!, and BBE (though Transeau had, for the most part, left the style behind by the time of its pop success during 1997-1998). After his debut album appeared in late 1995 (as BT), Transeau hit the dance charts when his remix of Tori Amos' "Blue Skies" became...
