iTunes Review

More robust than their European cousins, the harps of West Africa cascade through melodies with a hefty but graceful percussiveness. Master instrumentalists Ballaké Sissoko and Toumani Diabaté know exactly how to draw on this quality for all its ethereal and emotive magic, dancing their fingers upon the 21-string kora with deftness and power. Listen to the chiming, chamber music-like "Kita Kaira" and the cheery "Cheiknah Demba," and prepare to call the kora your new favorite instrument.

Cool neighborhood

Toumani Diabate & Ballake Sissoko are neighbors in Mali and they decided to record together. Diabate's & Sissoko's kora's mix together on New Ancient strings to create a very unique bit of recording. The songs Bi Lambam, Yamfa & Cheinah Demba are great songs that give you a feel for the recording.

Most Played

This is the most played album in my 30BG music library. I recommend Bafoulabe and Kora Bali for starters but two songs or the thirty second clips really do not give a full perspective. . You must buy the album!! New Ancient Strings is beyond's magical

mind boggling

Totally amazing. Especially Bi Lambam and Kora Bali. A good intro into African music and the work of two great artists. Worth a listen, if not to buy!
