iTunes Review

As a sign of changing record-industry economics, the ‘90s alternative band Toad the Wet Sprocket had fans primarily fund New Constellation, its first album of new material in 16 years. The band never had the hard breakup of other groups, often playing informally or for small tours throughout the years. Sprocket leader Glen Phillips even used his solo career to open for his own band. New Constellation is exactly what the Santa Barbara, Calif.–based college rockers have always been about: smart, melodic, low-key tunes with a truthful emotionalism (the six-minute album closer “Enough”) that never grandstands or dares a false move. Todd Nichols adds his tasteful jangling guitars to the tunes, and tracks like “New Constellation,” “California Wasted," and “Life Is Beautiful” ring with a confidence that comes with 20 years of friendship and fortysomething years of living.

A True Masterpiece And A Great Return

it's been 16 years since the last TTWS album, "Coil" arrived in stores. this album aims not to pick up where they left off, but to sound like what they would record today had they kept making music all these years. and they succeed in that goal. tracks like "The Moment", "I'll Bet On You", "Is There Anyone Out There" and "Get What You Want", all possible hits, bring that classic Toad sound back yet sound perfect along side anything on radio today, elsewhere tracks like "New Constellation", "Rare Bird" and "Life Is Beautiful" add a new sound and texture to the band. the vocals, lyrics, harmonies, all greatly missed these last 16 years. a final comeback and hopefully the first of many new Toad albums in the future!

It's been a long time, but Toad the Wet Sprocket finally returned to the studio and recorded another stellar album!!

Full of fun pop, introspective alternative, and a ballad or two, it's Toad at their best! And it's new!! Don't hesitate to pick this up. You'll love it!!

Named in honor of a sketch by the Monty Python comedy troupe, Toad the Wet Sprocket became one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the early '90s, boasting a contemporary folk-pop sound that wielded enough melody and R.E.M.-styled jangle to straddle both the modern rock and adult contemporary markets. Singer Glen Phillips, guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning (the nephew of '50s hitmaker Mark "Teen Angel" Dinning), and drummer Randy Guss formed the group in 1986 in their native...
