The only two other pianists who could approach Bill

This is the 3rd and last album on which Bill improvises with 3 pianos (some electric) with tape overdubbing permitting and capturing the result. Because it's Bill it can be recommended without reservations, though I would prefer to him playing solo or in the context of one of his 2 great trios--either the first with Scot LaFaro and Paul Motian or the 2nd with Marc Johnson and Joe Labarbera. Many listeners do not realize the absolute power and unequaled beauty of the final trio--1979--1980. Just as Bill made the piano his personal voice, his final trio is an organic extension of his very soul. The music is dark, achingly beautiful, capable of captivating the listener for hours on end. Compare this "After You" with the version he recorded a week before his death: "The Last Waltz," Disc one.
