FishHawk - Bells Underwater

Every once in a while, someone comes along to throw a monkey wrench into the stagnant, boring musical pallettes that pass for listenable music. Enter FishHawk, a trio from the south side of Atlanta that boasts no drummer, just two guitarist/keyboardists/drum programmers (Matt Williams and Andy Slagle) and a latter-day Jim Morrison (Nick Nickerson) as lead vocalist, soulfully strutting his way through each track with verve and passion. And the sound? A scintillating mishmash of influences ranging from 80's pop to 70's soul, with some modern rock and techno influences thrown in for good measure, particlularly on the melodic techno-rock of "Panic Attack." "Love Is Gone" plays down the middle - an 80's classic rock throwback that somehow feels fresh and new. The heavily synthesized "Into The Sunset" soars, both melodically and vocally. "Blacktop" likewise travels down the synth-pop track, with a hint of Linkin Park serving as an undercurrent. This track and the single "Night Owl" should be can't miss hits - each bubbles over with hooks and heart galore. And the R&B influenced title track could easily see airplay on urban radio. Each track serves as a new surprise for the listener, dashing and darting in different directions, yet maintaining an integrity and pop sensibility that should give the Georgia-based FishHawk the attention they most richly deserve. Check it out.

Man on the street says...

Here's a free CD listen to it. I brought it back to my car, and it's AMAZING. It was four songs from this album, and since then I have been WAITING, for a few MONTHS for this album to come out. It's better than I expected, and much more diverse. It doesn't sound like anything else out right now...NOTHING!! This album is worth every single penny.
